The Minister of Information, Hon. Barkhad Jama Hersi Batun, has announced that this year’s theme for the May 18 celebrations is “Recognition and Resilience,” highlighting the growing national spirit ahead of Somaliland’s Independence Day.

“The government is honored that the people of Somaliland are the source of the annual slogan for the May 18 independence celebrations,” the Minister stated during a media briefing.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab—who also chairs the National Committee for the May 18 celebrations—described this year’s commemoration as taking place at a historic moment. He emphasized that Somaliland is currently in a significant phase, noting its position among nations seeking broader global recognition.

“This year, we are celebrating as part of the recognized countries of the world, belonging to the international community,” he said.

The briefing forms part of ongoing preparations led by the national committee, which has called on citizens to come together in unity and peace as they prepare to mark the National Day of the Republic of Somaliland.
