Berbera Port and Trade Corridor Positioned as Key Drivers of Economic Growth

A report published by Horn Lens has stated that the Republic of Somaliland presented 14 investment opportunities and projects worth a combined total of more than $1.2 billion at an investment conference held in London, United Kingdom, on 14 October 2026.

The report said the total value of the investment opportunities presented exceeded $1.2 billion, highlighting Somaliland’s efforts to attract international investors and expand its economic partnerships.

Held alongside the AFSIC – Investing in Africa forum, the conference focused on Somaliland’s economic opportunities, infrastructure development, trade expansion and efforts to attract foreign investment. According to information presented at the event, the Investment Dealbook featured 14 projects spanning several key sectors of the economy.

The report identified the Port of Berbera and the Berbera Corridor as central components of Somaliland’s economic development ambitions, particularly in expanding trade, improving transport infrastructure and strengthening connections with regional markets.

Somaliland’s strategic geographical position along the Gulf of Aden was also highlighted as an important economic advantage, offering opportunities in cargo transit, port services, warehousing, logistics and maritime trade.

The development of the port and its connecting infrastructure was described as a significant area of potential growth, capable of generating additional commercial opportunities and strengthening Somaliland’s role in regional trade networks.

The investment opportunities presented covered a range of sectors, including energy, mining, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, maritime logistics, manufacturing and technology. Investment in these sectors could help diversify the economy, strengthen local businesses and create new employment opportunities.

According to the conference report, Lord Stuart Polak also addressed Somaliland’s economic prospects, infrastructure development and the commercial potential of its people.

Participation in an international investment forum provides Somaliland with an opportunity to engage with investors, companies and other stakeholders interested in African markets. It also offers a platform to promote the country’s economic potential and establish partnerships that could support long-term development.

One of the key challenges for Somaliland will be translating the investment opportunities presented into operational projects. This will require clear implementation plans, accountability mechanisms and measurable outcomes to ensure that proposed investments contribute to economic growth and job creation.

The London investment conference and the 14 opportunities showcased underline Somaliland’s efforts to broaden its international commercial relationships and attract investment across multiple sectors of its economy.

The next important step will be turning these proposals into funded and operational projects backed by practical implementation strategies, accountability and tangible results for Somaliland’s economy.
