The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Somaliland House of Representatives has questioned Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adan (Bakaal) on the government’s efforts to secure international recognition, its diplomatic strategy and plans to strengthen Somaliland’s engagement with the international community.

The committee held an information-sharing meeting with the minister to assess the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ ongoing activities and examine progress in advancing Somaliland’s international standing.

Chaired by Committee Chairman Mohamed Hussein Jama (Raambo), the meeting also addressed international cooperation, attracting foreign investment and the government’s broader diplomatic plans to promote and protect national interests.

During the session, Minister Bakaal briefed lawmakers on ongoing diplomatic initiatives and efforts to expand Somaliland’s international relations. He also responded to questions from committee members concerning the country’s diplomatic engagements and pursuit of international recognition.

The meeting forms part of the House of Representatives’ parliamentary oversight responsibilities, enabling lawmakers to scrutinise government institutions, assess their performance and hold ministers accountable for implementing national policies.
