President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro has warned electricity companies against raising tariffs without prior consultation and mutual agreement, declaring that any such increase would have no legal validity.

“Any increase in electricity prices without mutual agreement is null and void,” President Irro said.

The President made the remarks on Tuesday during a ceremony marking the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Somaliland Police Force.

His statement underscores the need for electricity providers to consult relevant stakeholders before implementing changes to tariffs, while highlighting the importance of transparency and adherence to established regulations in the sector.

President Irro also stressed the importance of maintaining law and order, upholding public institutions and ensuring respect for the country’s laws.

He called for greater commitment to discipline, the rule of law and the protection of public order as essential pillars of Somaliland’s stability and governance.
