The United States has declared that Israel possesses the full sovereign authority to establish diplomatic relations with any nation it chooses, including its recent recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
Massad Boulos, senior advisor to President Donald Trump on Middle East and African affairs, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. When asked about Washington’s stance on Israel’s decision late last year to formally recognize Somaliland, Boulos was unequivocal.
“Israel has the right to establish diplomatic relations with anyone, just like any other independent country,” Boulos stated.
He emphasized that this principle applies universally to sovereign states worldwide, underscoring that the U.S. views Israel’s move as a legitimate exercise of its independent foreign policy.
