The Somaliland Ministry of Defence recently participated in a high-level international symposium on military integrity, hosted at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham. The summit was exclusively dedicated to exploring advanced strategies for preventing, countering, and managing corruption within defence institutions worldwide.

Advisor Farah Haji Ahmed Xaabuush led the Somaliland delegation, joining counterparts from 24 nations to exchange best practices for strengthening transparency, accountability, and good governance across the defence sector. During the conference, the UK government formally reaffirmed its continued commitment to Somaliland, pledging targeted training and institutional capacity-building programmes specifically designed to root out corruption within the military.

This engagement marks a pivotal step forward in deepening Somaliland’s international defence cooperation. The knowledge and operational frameworks acquired will significantly accelerate ongoing reforms within the National Armed Forces, reinforcing their drive to build transparent, highly capable, and publicly accountable institutions.
