Eng. Abdirisak Mohamed Farah (Wiiwaa), the newly elected Mayor of the Republic of Somaliland’s capital Hargeisa, has released his first official message to the public, outlining an ambitious plan to transform the capital into a modern, well-organized city that matches the standards of the Horn of Africa.

In his statement, Mayor Wiiwaa highlighted his strong track record in infrastructure, including his pioneering role in the construction of the iconic Waddada Cad (Hargeisa–Ina Guuxa), major contributions to the Isha Gobka Bridge, leadership in modern road and drainage projects, and serving as Chief Engineer for the Serena Severor Hotel. He also played a direct role in the reconstruction of the famous Waaheen Market.

For his short-term agenda, the mayor promised several key initiatives:

Modern waste management and recycling systems

Large-scale greening of the city with public parks

A comprehensive street and building addressing system

Digitization of municipal services through e-government platforms

Construction of modern neighborhood markets to reduce city center congestion

Quality sports facilities and youth development centers

Guided by the policies of the Wadani Party and working in alignment with President Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, Mayor Wiiwaa vowed to deliver a clean, peaceful, and prosperous Hargeisa through honesty, knowledge, and close collaboration with intellectuals, business leaders, the diaspora, and the youth.

He concluded with an emotional message: “Hargeisa — Do not stumble, do not be damaged, ever.”

The statement also extended congratulations to the people of Somaliland on the upcoming 18 May independence anniversary.
