Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Abdilahi Hassan Aadan, has conducted an official inspection of key tax and customs offices in Berbera to assess operational efficiency, strengthen accountability and improve government revenue collection.

The Minister was accompanied by the Ministry’s Director General, Mohamed Suleiman Hassan, during visits to several regional offices responsible for customs administration, inland revenue collection and financial accounting.

The delegation visited the Customs Centre at the Port of Berbera, the Port Customs Inspection Branch, the Sahil Regional Inland Revenue Office and the General Accounts Office, where they received briefings from regional Ministry officials on the status of operations.

The inspection was intended to provide the Ministry’s leadership with a direct assessment of service delivery, administrative performance and the challenges facing the offices. It also sought to identify areas requiring further attention to ensure that financial operations are conducted efficiently and in accordance with the Ministry’s regulations and policies.

During the visits, officials presented reports on their respective operations, enabling the delegation to gain a clearer understanding of existing challenges and areas where improvements and accelerated implementation of planned activities may be needed.

The inspection forms part of the Ministry’s wider efforts to strengthen transparency in public financial management, improve the effectiveness of tax collection and enhance services for citizens and the business community.

Berbera, home to Somaliland’s principal seaport, plays an important role in the country’s trade and customs administration. The effective management of customs operations and associated revenue services is therefore central to the government’s efforts to improve financial administration and ensure efficient public revenue collection.

The visit also highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to closer supervision of its regional offices, stronger coordination among officials and the implementation of departmental responsibilities in line with established plans and policies.
