The Director General of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Hassan Suleiman, has emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the capacity and expertise of the Tax Protection Force to improve the country’s revenue collection system.
Speaking on the matter, the Director General highlighted the importance of having a well-trained and adequately staffed force capable of effectively carrying out tax-related duties. He noted that personnel must fully understand both their responsibilities and the mechanisms involved in revenue collection.
“We need a sufficient Tax Protection Force for revenue collection—whether it concerns employees or profits—with a clear understanding of their roles and how the system operates,” he said.
He further stressed that enhancing the knowledge and skills of the force is critical, warning that failure to do so could hinder progress. According to him, the Tax Protection Force plays a central role in safeguarding, collecting, and monitoring national revenue.
“The force is the backbone of tax protection, collection, and follow-up. Without improving its capacity, we risk falling behind,” he added.
Despite the challenges, the Director General expressed optimism that ongoing efforts to strengthen the system will produce positive results, encouraging stakeholders to take advantage of the improvements being implemented.
