Somaliland’s Finance Ministry Launches High-Level Training to Boost Leadership and Embrace AI in Berbera

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland Hon. Abdillahi Hassan Aden has officially inaugurated an intensive high-level training workshop designed to sharpen the knowledge and professional skills of departmental directors across the ministry.

The training program, organized by the ISEGP Project with technical and financial support from the African Development Bank, is taking place in the coastal city of Berbera.

In his opening remarks, the Minister underscored the strategic importance of the workshop in accelerating the ministry’s performance and modernizing its operations. He outlined four key focus areas: transformative leadership and change management; accountability and ethical standards in financial administration; staff and project performance evaluation, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms; and the smart integration of modern information technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into financial management systems.

The Minister extended his appreciation to the organizers and funders of the initiative.

The Director General of the Ministry described the training as timely and highly relevant, noting that its topics directly address the real-world challenges and daily responsibilities faced by department directors. He urged participants to value every moment of the program.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Berbera commended the Ministry of Finance for spearheading capacity-building efforts and championing the adoption of modern technological systems, emphasizing the vital national role the ministry continues to play.

The workshop is expected to equip senior officials with cutting-edge tools to drive efficiency, innovation, and excellence in public financial management.
