Minister of Livestock and Rural Development, Hon. Omar Shu’ayb Mohamed accompanied by Director General Ahmed Osman Jama (Talo-same), held a productive meeting with representatives from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) to discuss the ongoing Qool-caday Bank project, funded by the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF).
The meeting focused on the project’s critical role in supporting Somaliland’s pastoralist communities, which form the backbone of the nation’s economy.
Minister Omar emphasized the transformative potential of the Qool-caday Bank initiative, highlighting its importance in improving livestock management, enhancing market access, and building resilience against climate-related challenges such as droughts.
The project aims to provide pastoralists with sustainable financial and technical support, ensuring long-term economic stability for rural communities.
Director General Jama provided a detailed briefing on the project’s progress, underscoring its benefits, including improved livestock health, increased productivity, and strengthened value chains.
The initiative aligns with Somaliland’s broader development goals to modernize the livestock sector, which accounts for a significant portion of the country’s GDP and export revenue.
Expressing gratitude to DANIDA, Minister Omar praised the agency’s longstanding commitment to Somaliland’s development, particularly in fostering economic growth and community resilience. “The partnership with DANIDA is vital for advancing our vision of sustainable rural development and empowering our pastoralists,” he stated.
DANIDA officials reaffirmed their support for the Qool-caday Bank project, emphasizing its alignment with their mission to promote inclusive economic growth and sustainable agricultural practices in Somaliland. They commended the Ministry’s efforts to coordinate and implement the project effectively.
This collaboration marks a milestone in Somaliland’s efforts to strengthen its livestock sector and improve the livelihoods of its rural population, paving the way for a more resilient and prosperous future.
