The Minister of Environment and Climate Change Hon. Shukri Haji Ismail Bandare, who is one of the delegates in the World Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai, on Wedneday participated in one of the scientific debates of the conference, which discussed issues related to renewable energy.
The minister presented the role of the Somaliland government in encouraging the use of different energy sources that are environment friendly, especially LPGs and other green energy, which the government has completely exempted tax for anyone indulging in them within the country; and has so far encouraged 16.2% of the community in Somaliland to use of green energy directly.
Minister Shukri also presented the investment opportunity in the field of green energy in Somaliland and the laws of the country that has been formulated and already prepared for any investment that contributes to the environment and climate change.
On the other hand, the Minister accompanied by the Ambassador of Somaliland to the United Arab Emirates and the Director of the Planning Department of the Ministry, held a meeting with an official from the Investment Office of the British Government, and discussed in depth the investment opportunities that the UK can bring to Somaliland which are environment-friendly oriented.
