WADDANI Party Chairman Hersi Ali Haji Hassan has announced plans to establish a WADDANI School of Leadership, a new political training institution aimed at developing the party’s cadres and preparing a new generation of leaders.

Hersi said the proposed school would serve as a centre for educating and training WADDANI’s political cadres, with a particular focus on strengthening their political knowledge, professional skills and leadership capabilities.

“We want to establish the WADDANI School of Leadership, which will serve as a centre for educating and training the political cadres of the WADDANI Party,” Hersi said.

He said the initiative would seek to prepare party members for the responsibilities and positions they aspire to hold, while creating a more capable and professionally organised political structure within WADDANI.

“Our objective is to enhance the knowledge, skills and political capacity of our cadres, while preparing each individual for the position or responsibility they aspire to attain,” he said.

Hersi argued that Somaliland had yet to experience a ruling party that had successfully developed and maintained a strong institutional role beyond its participation in government.

“Our country has never before experienced a well-established ruling party that has fully fulfilled its role as a political party,” he said.

He said WADDANI wanted to establish a different model in which the ruling party would remain institutionally strong while working closely with, and supporting, the government.

“As WADDANI, we want to chart a new path, so that the party becomes strong and well-organised, working alongside and remaining closely connected to its government,” Hersi said.

The proposed WADDANI School of Leadership, if implemented, could become a key component of the party’s long-term efforts to build its political institution and develop future leaders.

The initiative would also mark an attempt by the ruling party to institutionalise political leadership development, strengthen the capacity of its cadres and create a sustainable leadership pipeline for the party’s future.

Hersi’s remarks position the proposed school as part of a broader effort to ensure that WADDANI develops not only political leaders for the present government but also a generation of leaders capable of sustaining the party’s political institution in the future.
