Hargeisa (THT) HE President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo had over the week, 24/12/2014, issued Presidential decree #JSL/M/WM/240-2867/122014 enacting into law the Somaliland national identity and voter’s registration bill.
The Presidential decree stated as follows:-
In accordance with Article 90 section 70 of the constitution and in accordance with bill Somaliland national identity and voter’s registration bill Lr. GW/G/KF-27642/2014 which was recently approved by the national assembly, I do hereby enact national identity and voter’s registration bill into law.
The enacting of the national identity and voter’s registration bill into is crucial for registering eligible voters and the issuance of national identity cards before the holding of next year’s parliamentary and Presidential elections which is due next year.
