Hargeisa (THT) The long awaited Somaliland Journalist Association 5th general meeting was finally held today at the Ambassador Hotel ending a four month delay due to ongoing infighting between two groups one led by the outgoing chairman Mr. Hassan Mohamed Yusuf and the other by the Vice chairman Mr. Mohamed AbdiCurad ,Secretary General Mr. Mohamed Rashid Muhumed.
The fifteen man preparatory committee named by outgoing chairman today elected the awarding winning journalist Mr. Mahmoud AbdiJama aka Huuto as new chairman, Mr. Kayse Ahmed Digale , HCTV Togdheer correspondent vice chairman and Mr. Hussein Yusuf Kurdi as the group secretary general.
Today’s meeting comes one day after the rival group led by the outgoing vice chairman and media meeting held a press conference claiming that the whole process was hijacked by other faction.
Its yet unclear if today’s meeting marks the end of a longtime power struggle between two factions in the main body representing journalists in country, Somaliland Journalist Association (SOLJA).
