The 74th session of the Somaliland Council of Ministers was held at the Presidential Palace, chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro and attended by Vice President Mohamed Ali aw Abdi.
The Cabinet discussed a number of key national issues, including security, the economy, fuel and commodity prices, and the ongoing regional football championship.
National Security Situation
Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and National Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, briefed the Council on the country’s overall security and stability.
The minister emphasized that national security remains the cornerstone of stability and development in Somaliland, adding that the government continues to strengthen vigilance and cooperation among national security institutions.
He told the Cabinet that the overall security situation across the country remains stable and that security agencies are fully prepared to safeguard Somaliland’s sovereignty, peace and public order.
State of the Economy
The state minister for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Ismail Maulid Abdillahi, briefed the Council on the overall economic situation.
He said the ministry has been undertaking extensive reforms to modernize and improve the national public financial management system.
The minister also announced the implementation of a new electronic system designed to strengthen and modernize documentation involving financial transactions and government-issued documents, including licenses, permits and certificates.
He outlined the system’s objectives and the benefits it is expected to bring to Somaliland’s public administration and economy.
Fuel and Commodity Prices
The Minister of Trade and Tourism, Hon. Abdirahman Hassan Nour, presented a report on the country’s fuel and commodity markets, including price fluctuations, foreign-exchange market movements, monitoring measures and efforts to verify national fuel reserves.
The minister said the rise in fuel and commodity prices is part of a global trend affecting markets worldwide, attributing the pressures in part to the prevailing security situation in the Middle East.
Regional Football Championship
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Ahmed-Yasin Mohamed Farah, briefed the Cabinet on the progress of the Regional Football Championship and the ministry’s plans to renovate and develop sports stadiums across the country’s regions.
He also announced that an international half-marathon is expected to take place soon in Somaliland, particularly in Hargeisa, with athletes from as many as 11 countries expected to participate this year.
The minister said hosting the event would provide Somaliland with an important opportunity to develop athletics and strengthen its international sporting relations.
The 74th Cabinet session reflects the government’s continued focus on national security, economic reforms, market stability and the development of sports infrastructure.
