The Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Abdilahi Hasan Aadan, today welcomed the World Bank’s Representative to Somaliland, Mr. Hideki, and the delegation he is leading on an official working visit to Somaliland.
Accompanied by the Deputy Minister and the Director General of the ministry, the Minister held an important meeting with the World Bank delegation. The discussions focused on the various projects currently being implemented by the World Bank in Somaliland, upcoming new projects, and the strengthening of cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and the World Bank.
The meeting placed special emphasis on the progress of World Bank-supported projects in Somaliland, which cover critical sectors for national development, including: education, agriculture, water, health, good governance, infrastructure, modernization of government systems, and other public services.
Minister Abdilahi Hasan Aadan briefed the delegation on the importance of the World Bank’s projects for the country’s development. He highlighted that this support has played a major role in strengthening public services, enhancing the capacity of government institutions, and successfully implementing effective development projects.
The Minister also emphasized that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development is committed to managing World Bank-supported projects — as well as those from other development partners — with transparency, accountability, and in full compliance with sound financial management systems.
For his part, the World Bank’s Representative to Somaliland, Mr. Hideki, thanked the Government of Somaliland for the effective management and implementation of World Bank-funded projects. He praised the excellent collaboration between the World Bank and Somaliland government institutions, particularly the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, which plays a key role in the coordination, management, and oversight of development projects.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and accelerate the implementation of ongoing and planned new projects. These efforts aim to directly contribute to improving public services, boosting economic growth, creating jobs, and strengthening national institutions.
These working meetings between the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank delegation will continue over the next two days. Discussions will focus on advancing current projects, exploring new cooperation opportunities, and aligning with Somaliland’s development priorities.
