The Chairman of the Republic of Somaliland’s WADDANI party, Hersi Ali Haji Hassan, has underscored the critical importance of peace and infrastructure development as the government officially launches the construction of the strategic Lawya-Addo–Borama road.

Speaking during the ceremony marking the start of the major road project, Chairman Hersi described the Lawya-Addo–Borama highway as the third major long-distance road initiated by the current administration since assuming office. He emphasized that roads are a fundamental pillar of economic growth and national development.

“The Lowya-Addo–Borama road is the third major long-distance road that this government has initiated since coming to power. Roads are the backbone of the economy, and this road, which connects regions and another country, is a major development achievement,” he said.

The WADDANI chairman highlighted the broader regional significance of the road, noting that the project will enhance connectivity between Somaliland and neighboring countries while creating new economic opportunities for communities along the route.

Hirsi also stressed that peace remains the foundation for all development efforts, warning that instability would undermine progress and investment.

“These companies constructing the road came because of peace. If there is no peace, there will be no development or life, so let us all work to preserve peace,” he added.

The Lawya-Addo–Borama road project is widely regarded as one of Somaliland’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives in recent years. The highway is expected to strengthen trade links, improve transportation networks, and accelerate socio-economic development across western regions of the Republic of Somaliland while enhancing regional integration with neighboring countries.
