The Chairman of the Peace Committee of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdikadir Jirde, has defended Israel’s sovereign right to recognize Somaliland, stating that no external approval is required for such a diplomatic decision.
Speaking on Somaliland’s international relations and foreign policy direction, Jirde emphasized the importance of building partnerships with technologically and economically advanced nations. He highlighted Somaliland’s growing ties with both Israel and Taiwan, describing them as strategic partners with strong global influence and development success.
“These are two highly respected global powers, and currently, there are no greater strategic partners for us,” he stated.
Jirde also challenged the idea that membership in the United Nations is the sole measure of statehood. He argued that true sovereignty is defined by a nation’s ability to independently govern its territory, enforce its laws, and maintain full control over its affairs.
