Somaliland Finance Ministry Boosts World Bank Project Coordination with New PCU Launch and Performance Review

The Director General of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Hassan Saleban, chaired the quarterly meeting of project coordinators funded by the World Bank. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, focused on strengthening coordination of projects and reviewing the performance of the first quarter of 2026.

The Director General, who opened the meeting, highlighted the recent efforts made by the Ministry, particularly the increase in World Bank–supported projects in the country and the strengthening of the cooperative relationship between the two sides. He emphasized the importance of such meetings for exchanging project information, assessing progress, analyzing existing challenges, and jointly identifying effective solutions.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the first-quarter reports of 2026, with particular focus on project implementation progress, the challenges encountered, and measures to improve performance.

The meeting also featured the introduction of a new Program Coordination Unit (PCU), which will play a key role in strengthening coordination, monitoring, and accelerating project implementation. This unit is expected to enhance communication among various stakeholders and improve overall performance.

In conclusion, the Director General stressed the need to strengthen cooperation, accelerate project implementation, and reinforce transparency and accountability in order to achieve development goals. It was also agreed to maintain such regular meetings to further accelerate project execution and improve expected outcomes.
