The Minister of Energy and Minerals of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Ahmed Jama Barre, has announced that the government is actively working to reduce electricity prices, aiming to bring the cost down to 20 cents within the next five years.

He commended electricity companies for their ongoing efforts to lower power tariffs, noting their role in easing the burden on consumers. At the same time, the Minister called on providers to accelerate the transition from fuel-dependent generators to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

“We highly appreciate the electricity companies for reducing the price of power,” he said. “The government’s goal during its five-year term is to bring the cost down to 20 cents, but this requires strong joint efforts. Our companies should be encouraged to move towards generating energy from cleaner sources and shift away from machines that consume large amounts of fuel.”

The remarks underscore the government’s broader strategy to promote affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions across the country.
