A high-level delegation from the Somaliland House of Representatives, led by Second Deputy Speaker Hon. Ali Hamud Jibril, held a pivotal meeting with Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs during their official visit to Finland.
The delegation, which included Hon. Barkhad Jama Batuun (Chairman of the Committee on Sharia, Religion, and Family Affairs), Hon. Hassan Ahmed Ilmi (Hassan-Kayse), and Hon. Hussein Adan Abdi, engaged in productive discussions with Finnish officials, including Suvi Tuominen, Team Leader for the Horn of Africa, and Sara Leon Karlsson, Senior Specialist in the Development Policy Unit for Eastern and Southern Africa.
The talks focused on enhancing Finland’s support and grants to Somaliland, with the delegation advocating for direct aid channels to ensure transparency and efficiency. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation, allowing Somaliland to directly benefit from Finnish assistance.
The delegation expressed gratitude to Representative of Somaliland Liaison Office in Finland Samia Muse and Ahmed Hirsi for their instrumental roles in facilitating the talks. They also thanked the Somaliland community in Finland for their unwavering support during the visit.
This marks the second time Hon. Ali and Finnish officials have discussed Somaliland-Finland cooperation, signaling a growing partnership between the two nations.
