In a pivotal move to strengthen its aviation sector and drive economic progress, Hon. Fu’ad Ahmed Nuux, Minister of Civil Aviation and Airport Development of the Republic of Somaliland, officially opened the Executive Strategic Retreat for the Ministry’s leadership today. The two-day event, held in Borama, gathers key stakeholders to shape the future of Somaliland’s aviation infrastructure as part of broader efforts to modernize airports and enhance regional connectivity.

The retreat, attended by Directors of various Ministry departments, Heads of Offices, and Technical Advisors, is focused on rigorously evaluating and refining the implementation strategies for the Ministry’s Strategic Plan for 2025–2029.

Discussions will center on aligning departmental objectives, tracking progress, and achieving ambitious goals such as expanding airport capacities, enhancing safety protocols, and boosting international partnerships. Ministry officials underscored the plan’s critical role in supporting Somaliland’s economic development and attracting global investment in its aviation sector.

Inspiring the attendees, Hon. Yusuf Keyse Abdillahi, the Deputy Minister, and Mr. Rachid Abdi Jama, the Director General, delivered compelling speeches.

Hon. Fu’ad emphasized the retreat’s potential to spark innovation and collaboration, declaring, “This is a defining moment to position our aviation sector as a cornerstone of Somaliland’s growth and global engagement.” Director General Rachid reinforced this vision, urging participants to focus on measurable results and cross-departmental coordination to ensure the plan’s success.

The retreat aligns with Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to bolster its aviation industry, highlighted by recent upgrades to Egal International Airport in Hargeisa and strategic investments in Berbera Port, which enhance the nation’s trade and transport hub status. Experts suggest the retreat’s outcomes could pave the way for strengthened ties with international organizations like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and further progress in Somaliland’s quest for global recognition.

This gathering reaffirms the Somaliland government’s commitment to building a robust, world-class civil aviation framework, positioning the nation as a vital hub in the Horn of Africa.
