In a heartening display of support for educational advancement, Somaliland’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Hon. Mohamoud Adan Jama Galaal, held a special meeting today with a group of talented students from the 2025 batch who have successfully secured the prestigious International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Taiwan Scholarship.
The gathering, which took place at the Somaliland Representative Office in Taipei, brought together promising young scholars who will soon embark on advanced studies in various Master’s and PhD programs across Taiwan’s renowned universities.
The ICDF Scholarship, a flagship initiative of the Taiwanese government, aims to foster international collaboration and human resource development, particularly in developing nations like Somaliland. This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of fields, including engineering, public health, agriculture, and international relations, underscoring Somaliland’s commitment to building a skilled workforce for future national development.
Ambassador Galaal, known for his dedication to strengthening bilateral ties between Somaliland and Taiwan, extended warm congratulations to the students and offered words of encouragement. “Today, I had the privilege of meeting with the 2025 batch of students who have triumphed in securing the ICDF Taiwan Scholarship and will pursue various Master’s and PhD programs,” the ambassador stated. “I wish them every success in their educational journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make upon their return to Somaliland.”
The students, hailing from different regions of Somaliland, expressed their gratitude for the ambassador’s guidance and the ongoing support from both the Somaliland and Taiwanese governments.
This meeting comes at a time when Somaliland-Taiwan relations continue to deepen, with education exchanges forming a cornerstone of cooperation. Since establishing formal ties in recent years, the two nations have collaborated on numerous scholarship programs, technical training, and capacity-building initiatives. The ICDF Scholarship alone has supported over a dozen Somaliland students in the past few years, contributing to expertise in key sectors vital for Somaliland’s economic growth.
As the students prepare to commence their studies in the coming months, Ambassador Galaal emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and knowledge transfer. “These scholars are not just students; they are bridges between our peoples,” he added. “Their success will undoubtedly strengthen the enduring partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan.”
