A high-level workshop on international electoral systems was officially inaugurated today in Hargeisa, bringing together experts, parliamentarians, and international representatives to discuss and compare global electoral frameworks. The two-day event aims to bolster Somaliland’s democratic processes by drawing on international experiences to enhance its electoral system.

The workshop, attended by members of the Somaliland Parliament, legal and electoral specialists, and delegates from international organizations promoting democracy, is part of a series of initiatives supported by the Max Planck Foundation. These efforts focus on building legislative capacity and deepening understanding of electoral systems.

Coming at a critical time as Somaliland prepares for significant upcoming elections, the workshop is expected to provide valuable insights to refine the nation’s electoral processes. Discussions will cover best practices, challenges, and innovations in electoral systems worldwide, with the goal of fostering a more robust democratic framework in Somaliland.

“This workshop is a vital step in strengthening our democratic institutions,” said a Somaliland Parliamentarian. “By learning from global experiences, we can ensure our elections are transparent, fair, and reflective of the people’s will.”

The event underscores Somaliland’s commitment to advancing its democratic governance and sets the stage for meaningful reforms ahead of the upcoming elections.
