In a significant step toward addressing illegal migration, Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Awareness, Mr. Ahmed-Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayanle, held a productive meeting with representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at his office in Hargeisa. The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration to raise public awareness and curb human trafficking, with a particular focus on protecting the nation’s youth.

The meeting, attended by senior Ministry officials and led by IOM’s Hargeisa office head, Ayaan Hassan, emphasized the urgent need to educate communities about the dangers of illegal migration. Both parties highlighted the importance of disseminating accurate information regarding anti-trafficking laws and policies to counter misinformation that often fuels perilous, unauthorized journeys.

Minister Ayanle underscored Somaliland’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens, stating, “Our youth are our future, and we must protect them from the risks of illegal migration through robust awareness campaigns and stronger policies.” IOM’s Ayan Hassan echoed this sentiment, pledging the organization’s support in amplifying these efforts through joint initiatives.

The two sides concluded the meeting with a mutual agreement to deepen their partnership, focusing on coordinated strategies to tackle migration challenges. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to promote safe migration practices and protect vulnerable populations from exploitation.
