In a significant step toward advancing public health, Somaliland’s Minister of Health Development, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, held a high-level meeting today with senior officials from UNICEF’s global headquarters at his office in Hargeisa. The discussions centered on two transformative initiatives, Power4Girls and Skills4Girls, aimed at improving the well-being of young girls across Somaliland.
Joined by key ministry officials, including Director General Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Jama, the Directors of Planning and Community Health, the Head of Nutrition, and the Minister’s Advisor, Dr. Hirsi explored strategies to bolster healthcare, education, and nutrition services for young girls through these programs. The Power4Girls and Skills4Girls projects are designed to empower young girls by enhancing their physical and educational capabilities, laying the foundation for healthier future generations of mothers and children while reducing long-term health risks.
