In a powerful address to the nation, Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Awareness, Hon. Ahmed-Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayanle, urged citizens to unite in defense of the country’s sovereignty and stability. Speaking at a critical juncture for the Republic of Somaliland, the Minister emphasized the need for national solidarity and vigilance in the face of growing external and border-related challenges.
Highlighting the historical resilience of Somaliland, Minister Ahmed-Yasin noted that the nation’s strength lies in the unity of its people and government. “Our history has shown that unity is the cornerstone of our achievements—be it maintaining peace, building democratic institutions, or defending our independence,” he stated. He warned that internal political disputes and societal mistrust could create vulnerabilities exploitable by adversaries seeking to destabilize Somaliland.
The Minister’s call comes as Somaliland navigates a delicate period marked by increasing geopolitical tensions in the Horn of Africa. He stressed that unity is not just a choice but a “national duty” essential to preserving Somaliland’s existence and aspirations. “We must stand together to counter misinformation and external pressures that threaten our nationhood,” he added.
In his address, Minister Ahmed-Yasin also underscored the critical role of the media in safeguarding national security. He called on local media outlets to actively combat misinformation and promote narratives that strengthen national unity. “In an era of fake news and psychological warfare, our media must be at the forefront of defending the truth,” he said.
The Minister expressed strong support for remarks made by former President H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi during a recent national funeral for two individuals killed in Hargeisa. He described the former President’s speech as a “serious warning” about the dangers of internal divisions and urged citizens to translate national pride into concrete actions.
As Somaliland faces both domestic and regional challenges, Minister Ahmed-Yasin’s message serves as a rallying cry for unity, resilience, and collective action. His leadership has been praised for its clarity and commitment to Somaliland’s sovereignty, signaling to the international community that the nation is prepared to stand firm against any threats to its stability.
