The Republic of Somaliland is intensifying its campaign for international recognition, with Foreign Minister Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Adan declaring that the nation is in a critical phase of preparation to secure its place among the global community of nations. Speaking during a visit to the Ministry of Information’s Radio Hargeisa, the minister emphasized Somaliland’s 35-year journey of resilience and self-governance, asserting that the time for formal recognition has arrived.

“Somaliland is no longer just seeking the world’s attention; the world now recognizes our strategic importance in the Horn of Africa, across the continent, and beyond,” Minister Adan stated, highlighting Somaliland’s stability and democratic credentials. He pointed to ongoing discussions in the United States, including at the White House, as evidence of growing international interest in Somaliland’s sovereignty.

The minister revealed that Presidet H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi is planning a high-level visit to the United States to further diplomatic ties and advance Somaliland’s recognition agenda.

Somaliland’s strategic position near the Red Sea and its relative stability compared to Somalia have bolstered its case.

Minister Adan also announced that Somaliland’s Parliament is set to ratify legislation formalizing the appointment of ambassadors, a key step in establishing diplomatic relations. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information and Radio Hargeisa for their role in amplifying Somaliland’s voice, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace and regional cooperation.

As Somaliland marks its 34th year of de facto independence, President H.E. Abdilahi has appealed to over 130 world leaders for recognition, citing the nation’s democratic elections, independent currency, and robust security institutions.

The international community is watching closely as Somaliland positions itself as a stable, democratic partner in a volatile region, with its leaders confident that recognition is not a matter of “if” but “when.”
