A high-level delegation led by Somaliland’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ali Hamud Jibril, delivered vital food aid to 1,000 drought-affected families in the Salel region and its surrounding districts. The initiative, spearheaded by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, targets communities grappling with severe drought conditions in areas such as Abdi-Qadir, Jidhi, Ceel-Gaal, Madax-Dabley, Sheikh Awaare, and other locales under Salel’s jurisdiction.

The delegation, which included Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Yasin Mohamed Farah, Minister of Energy and Minerals Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, and Deputy Minister of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs Abdirahman Shide Bile, conducted an inspection tour of the Salel and Awdal regions to assess the dire living conditions of residents and livestock. The food aid distribution was prioritized for the most vulnerable, particularly displaced pastoralists hardest hit by the ongoing drought.

Governor of Salel, Abdi Siid Fahiye, emphasized the meticulous assessment process undertaken by the regional administration to ensure aid reached those in greatest need. “This food aid, generously donated by President Irro, is a lifeline for 1,000 families devastated by drought,” he stated during the distribution event.

Ministers and officials present at the distribution sites underscored the aid’s significance in alleviating the suffering of affected communities. Deputy Minister Bile further pledged to document displaced families to facilitate additional support tailored to their urgent needs.

The Somaliland government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Salel and Awdal, vowing continued efforts to improve the welfare of residents and their livestock. This collaborative action highlights Somaliland’s dedication to supporting its drought-stricken communities during challenging times.
