In a significant step toward empowering women in education, the Somaliland National Examinations Office, led by Director Da’ud Ahmed Farah, has announced that 106 female graduates from the Teacher Training Institute in Hargeisa will serve as exam supervisors for the upcoming Grade 4 and Grade 8 national examinations. The announcement was made during a ceremony at Mansoor Hotel in Hargeisa, celebrating the graduates’ completion of their teacher training program.
Director Da’ud emphasized that these newly trained teachers will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the examination process by combating cheating, which he described as a “national calamity” that threatens the future of Somaliland’s youth. “This year, we are proud to assign these 106 girls to be part of the exam supervisors. Their first national duty will be to uphold fairness and fight cheating in our schools,” Da’ud stated. He further highlighted the importance of education, echoing the Vice President’s sentiment that disrupting education is a sure way to destabilize a nation.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Somaliland Ministry of Education and the National Examinations Office to strengthen the education system and address challenges such as cheating, which Da’ud likened to an epidemic that passes from generation to generation if not addressed. “We want these young women to lead the charge in ensuring a generation free from cheating,” he urged, encouraging the graduates to make a tangible impact in their roles.
The move has been widely praised as a progressive step toward gender inclusion in Somaliland’s education sector. The 106 female graduates, now equipped with professional training, are expected to serve as both educators and role models in schools across the country, contributing to a fair and transparent examination process.
The Grade 4 and Grade 8 national examinations are set to commence in the coming weeks, with the newly appointed supervisors ready to take on their responsibilities. This development marks a milestone in Somaliland’s efforts to promote quality education and empower women in leadership roles within the academic sphere.
