The Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Yusuf Duale, presided over a vibrant graduation ceremony for the third batch of pre-service teachers at the Teacher Training Institute. The event marked a significant milestone as 106 female teachers completed their training and are set to join Somaliland’s education system as permanent employees.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Duale emphasized the institute’s mission to elevate the quality of education by equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge needed to meet their professional demands. “The quality of education starts with the teacher,” he stated. “Without the necessary expertise, a teacher cannot produce knowledgeable students who contribute to the progress of Somaliland and its people.”

The graduates, trained to teach grades one through eight, represent a critical step in addressing the country’s educational needs. The Minister highlighted that the training program will be ongoing, with regular updates to ensure teachers stay abreast of new knowledge and methodologies.

Prof. Duale also announced plans to expand the initiative nationwide, aiming to establish teacher training institutes in every region. “Our goal is to ensure that every teacher is qualified in their own locality, making quality education accessible across Somaliland,” he said.

The Minister extended his gratitude to all stakeholders who have supported the institute’s efforts in producing skilled educators. The graduation of these 106 female teachers is seen as a pivotal moment in strengthening Somaliland’s education system and empowering women in the workforce.
