The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw-Abdi, and the large delegation he led that has been on the historic pacification mission in the eastern parts of the country were accorded heroic reception as they returned to the capital city of Hargeisa early in the week.

He thanked the traditional leaders, elders, youth and women fraternity for the success of the El Afweyn mission of peace.

The pacification mission entailed the successful striking of a peace accord between two fraternal clans in El Afweyn whose rivalry culminated in skirmishes that spanned a whole decade leaving behind a spate of civil strife.

At the same time the peaceful process was in juxtaposition with the disarmament that also entailed the precarious tasks of demobilization of thousands local communities’ militia, including their amours, and absorbing them through integration into the national armed forces.

The VP’s handling of the matters of the processes carried with wisdom combined with pragmatic, bold, decisive and superb acumen has made him an instant national hero who has been highly praised by all the common folks in the streets to the higher echelons including the President himself.

In  historic reception for a sitting VP, the Hargeisa city Mayor, cabinet ministers, topmost service commanders, MPs, eminent personalities and residents of the city from all walks of life assembled over a dozen of miles at the outskirts of the city, Haleeya, to triumphantly receive him, underscoring the nature of the task he had embarked on.

His convoy snaked through the city streets all the way to the Presidency where the Head of State himself received him in an esteemed fashion hitherto unseen in the land.

The VP attributed his success to the faith his boss had in him and entrusting him with the task and, by giving him a free hand to delve into the matters.
