President visits site of blaze, pledges government support for victims

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro on Monday morning visited and inspected the damage caused by the midnight blazing fire that broke out on the night Sunday/Monday at the commercial open air market of Idaa’da , along the perimeter fence of the information ministry.

The President, who was accompanied by members of the cabinet, some of the service commanders of the various forces, the deputy Hargeisa mayor, the governor of Maroodi-jeeh region and scores of government officials, witnessed the extent of the damage caused by the fire to the properties of the merchants who operated at the area.

The President stated that the government would supportively stand by the victims of the blaze.

President Abdirahman Irro expressed his painful sorrow for the losses suffered by the people who were trading at the site.

He said, “I share the sorrow and pain of the traders of the Gobonnimo market, and the nation shares the losses and hardships they have suffered which is quite sad and I ask God to replace the losses with something better.”

The President called on the members of the public to help those who have suffered losses, and to participate in the collection of funds that would be raised for them, mentioning a national plan to prevent the recurring fires that are causing damage to society and the economy of the country.

He declared that the matter has been referred to a technical committee, which would study and provide advice on how to recover from the losses.
