London MP Gavin Williamson has called on the British government to give special aid to Somaliland, as Somalia uses political coercion when channeled through it.
MP Gavin who was speaking at a debate in the British Parliament’s International Cooperation Committee over the week said, “We see real challenges in bringing aid through Mogadishu, instead of directly into Hargeisa. There are amazing buildings in Berbera that can be used as a base to deliver aid to East Africa and the Horn of Africa.”
In the debate MP Gavin noted the importance of the British recognition of Somaliland, and said, “The British government ought to recognize Somaliland and ensure that aid goes directly to the people of Somaliland, instead of through Somalia which uses it as a political tool. It will definitely help the millions of people living in Somaliland.”
