THT-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, today received at the Presidential Palace a large delegation from the United States Congress who is on a working visit to Somaliland.

First, the President of the Republic of Somaliland briefed the members of the delegation on the progress made in the Republic of Somaliland over the past three decades, noting that a concerted effort has been made here, in collaboration with the people and the government, include safeguarding peace, development, democracy and elections, as a result of which the international community is keeping an eye on the changes that Somaliland is leading in its democracy in Africa and many other countries.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional security, democratic development, stability in the Horn of Africa region and political issues.
For their part, the members of the delegation thanked the President and the people of Somaliland for the warm welcome they received upon their arrival in the country, and witnessed the progress, and democracy in the country, pledging to provide a comprehensive report on progress and Democracy in Somaliland, to the US Congress they represent. They also noted that Somaliland was strategically located, and commended the electoral process.
The President was accompanied by the Vice President of Somaliland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Deputy Minister of Interior and Security, the Ambassador of Somaliland to the United States and the Director of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

The delegation, which arrived in the country yesterday, had a private meeting with members of both houses of the House of Elders and Representatives, women’s organizations, and the University of Hargeisa hosted a dinner for the delegation last night. Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Security, Finance, Health, Planning and Environment.
