Addis Ababa- The Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said on Thursday 09, Feb-2017 that his country is determined to enhance its infrastructural interconnection with Somaliland to ensure maximum economic benefit.
The premier made the remark during a discussion in Addis Ababa with a Somaliland high-level delegation led by Muse Behi, a senior politician in the ruling party in Somaliland who is now a presidential candidate in the upcoming election.
With particular emphasis on the mutual desire to ensure maximum utilization of economic opportunities, the discussion has produced tangible exchanges of views on expanding the Berbera Corridor and the road interconnectivity of the two sides.
Ethiopia,s Minister of Transport Ahmed Shide who took part on the meeting said the need to broaden existing economic and infrastructural cooperation including road, railway and electric power were high on the agenda. He said Ethiopia sees Somaliland not only as a meaningful business partner but also as a strategic partner on regional peace and stability.
Somaliland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on his part underlined his government’s readiness to work with Ethiopia not only on issues of mutual benefit but of regional benefit. He noted the agreement reached between the two governments to consolidate economic cooperation. He said they have also agreed on Berbera port corridor development and utilization.
