The Ministry of Environment and Rural Development and SL security forces have confiscated a vehicle carrying an illegal consignment of plastic paper bags in the port city of Berbera.
Mr. Mohamed Elmi Hussein, the director general in the Ministry of Environment and Rural Development speaking to reporters said, “Ministry of Environment staff in conjunction Somaliland Police arrested several persons and at the same time seized a vehicle transporting an illegal consignment of plastic paper bags in the port city of Berbera.
The DG added, “Those arrested shall be arraigned in a court of law in the coming days.
H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo last year in April issued a Presidential directive banning the ubiquitous disposable plastic bag. The measure prohibits the manufacture or importation of plastic paper bags and also bans grocery and retail stores from providing single-use plastic bags.
