Somaliland has completed another stage in the rollout of its Somaliland Financial Management Information System (SLFMIS), as government officials and World Bank-backed project staff concluded an 18-day implementation programme in Tog-Wajaale.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the Ministry of Local Government and Urban Development, together with staff from the World Bank-funded SERP Project, took part in a workshop marking the completion of the third phase of SLFMIS implementation.
The meeting, held at the office of the Tog-Wajaale District Commissioner, concluded the implementation activities and formally handed over the system to the government institutions and departments involved in the programme.
SLFMIS is being introduced as part of Somaliland’s efforts to modernize the management of government financial information. The system is designed to improve the integration and sharing of financial data, strengthen transparency and make financial management operations more efficient.
The third phase, which was recently launched, is scheduled to extend the system to 24 government entities, comprising five districts under local government, seven water agencies, six hospitals and six universities.
The expansion represents another step in the government’s efforts to strengthen digital systems for managing public financial information and improve coordination among institutions.
Officials expect the implementation of SLFMIS to enhance government institutions’ capacity to manage and share financial data while supporting the broader modernization of public financial management in Somaliland.
