Somaliland Defense Minister Announces January 2027 Military Salary Increase During Frontline Visit

 Somaliland’s Minister of Defense, Mohamed Yusuf Ali, accompanied by the Commander of the Somaliland National Armed Forces, Brigadier General Nim’an Yusuf Gaxnug, visited frontline military positions today, Monday 31 August, 2026, where they met with troops and assessed conditions on the ground.

During the visit, Minister Mohamed Yusuf Ali announced that the scheduled salary increase for members of the Somaliland Armed Forces will officially take effect in January 2027, in a move aimed at improving the welfare of military personnel.

The Defense Minister and the Armed Forces Commander also urged all military personnel to uphold strict discipline, unity, professionalism, and respect for the chain of command.

They emphasized that any grievances, concerns, or complaints must be raised through official institutional channels, in accordance with military ethics, established procedures, and standard operational protocols.

The military leadership stressed that discipline and unity are essential to maintaining the effectiveness and cohesion of the Somaliland National Armed Forces, particularly among troops serving at frontline positions.

The visit underscored the Defense Ministry’s continued focus on troop welfare, military professionalism, discipline, and a unified command structure across the armed forces.
