Somaliland’s Minister of Planning and National Development, Hon. Kaltun Sheik Hassan, has called for greater national self-reliance, urging the country to reduce its dependence on foreign financial support and strengthen domestic efforts to drive development.
Speaking at a general coordination meeting for stakeholders involved in the Third National Development Plan, held in Hargeisa, Minister Kaltun emphasized the importance of unity, collective responsibility, and a coordinated national approach to achieving Somaliland’s development goals.
“If we rely on foreign hands, one day it will affect us,” the Minister said.
Hon. Kaltun warned that excessive reliance on external financial assistance could eventually influence Somaliland’s national development priorities and plans. She stressed that the country needs to build its own capacity and resources to ensure that national development remains sustainable and aligned with Somaliland’s long-term interests.
The Minister called for stronger cooperation among government institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders, while emphasizing the importance of creating a culture of self-reliance and national solidarity.
Her remarks came as Somaliland continues to implement its Third National Development Plan, which seeks to establish coordinated development priorities and strengthen the country’s economic and institutional capacity.
