I wanted to share some insights on Somaliland’s renewed diplomatic momentum under President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro. Since his assumption of office, the government has prioritized foreign affairs and international recognition, adopting a proactive diplomatic strategy. This includes engaging a wide range of stakeholders—governments, international organizations, policymakers, business leaders—to strengthen Somaliland’s international partnerships and enhance understanding of its political identity and aspirations.

Key to this approach is the emphasis on Somaliland’s strategic location along the Gulf of Aden, underscoring its role in maritime security and regional stability. Additionally, the administration highlights Somaliland’s democratic record and institutional development as fundamental to its quest for broader international recognition and cooperation.

While the issue of recognition remains complex and requires ongoing patience and strategic communication, the current administration has made significant strides in expanding bilateral relationships across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, covering trade, security, education, and regional cooperation.
