The council of the cabinet unanimously approved the country’s National Livestock Feed Policy following extensive discussions on its importance for strengthening livestock production, ensuring sustainable feed availability, and enhancing the resilience of pastoral communities against drought and climate change.
The decision took effect at their 70th weekly session that was as usual chaired by the Head of State H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro.
His deputy, the VP H.E. Mohamed Ali aw Abdi, was at hand flanking him.
The policy establishes a national framework for the production, storage, quality improvement, and management of livestock feed while encouraging investment, research, and collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and local communities. Officials described the policy as a major step toward safeguarding Somaliland’s livestock sector, the backbone of the national economy.
The cabinet session deliberated on a range of key national issues, including agriculture, security, the economy, digital transformation, sports, constitutional affairs, and foreign policy.
National Security
Minister of Interior and National Security Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab informed the Cabinet that Somaliland remains peaceful and secure, with stability prevailing across all regions.
He also announced that the Ministries of Interior, and Energy and Minerals, have jointly developed a framework to strengthen security and social cohesion in natural resource areas, particularly sites where gold and other minerals are being explored and extracted.
Economic Update
Minister of Finance and Economic Development Hon. Abdillahi Hassan Adan briefed the cabinet on the country’s economic outlook, highlighting the impact of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East on national revenues, rising fuel prices, and the cost of living.
He also updated ministers on preparations for the 2027 National Budget, stating that priorities include increasing domestic revenue, strengthening public financial management, maintaining economic stability, and aligning the budget with Somaliland’s national development priorities.
Digital Transformation
Minister of Communications and Technology Dr. Abdisalan Hussein Awale presented plans to accelerate Somaliland’s transition to a modern digital economy.
He emphasized that digitalization would improve government service delivery, promote digital economic growth, and modernize public administration, urging the Cabinet to recognize it as a strategic national priority.
National games
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Yusuf Nuh Yusuf (Tadase) reported that preparations have been completed for the upcoming Somaliland Regional Football Championship, which aims to promote youth talent, national unity, and social integration.
He also announced that Somaliland will host an International Marathon on 14 August 2026, with participants expected from numerous countries.
Constitutional Affairs
Minister of Parliamentary Relations and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Ahmed Aw Dahir H. Hassan briefed the Cabinet on efforts to strengthen constitutional institutions, improve legislative processes, revise unfinished national laws, promote civic awareness, and enhance public participation in Somaliland’s democratic system.
Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Adan updated the Cabinet on progress in Somaliland’s foreign policy, diplomatic engagement, and international recognition efforts.
He stressed that achieving Somaliland’s diplomatic objectives requires a unified national effort by both the government and the public, adding that growing opposition to Somaliland’s statehood makes national unity and the protection of the country’s interests more important than ever.
