The President of Somaliland H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro made an early morning personal courtesy call to the Renal Dialysis Unit at Hargeisa General Hospital (HGH), where he met patients receiving treatment and pledged immediate government action to address the unit’s urgent needs and patients’ concerns.
During the visit, the Head of State spoke individually with patients who relied on dialysis services, gaining first-hand insight into their medical conditions and the challenges they face in accessing the life-sustaining treatment.
He listened carefully to the concerns and needs of the patients, reaffirming that healthcare is a national responsibility hence emphasizing that the government has the primary obligation to ensure the availability of quality medical services for all citizens.
He was given a detailed briefing by the Director General of HGH, who outlined the current state of the dialysis unit, its operational needs, and the challenges affecting the delivery of the service.
President Abdirahman Irro pledged that the government would act swiftly to address the shortages and concerns affecting the dialysis unit. He said priority would be given to providing additional dialysis machines, essential medical supplies, and other critical equipment needed to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of the life-saving service for patients who require regular kidney dialysis.
His visit underscores the Somaliland government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and improving access to essential treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease.
