The Ministry of Agricultural Development has embarked on a comprehensive review of agricultural plans and performance across Somaliland’s regions, as part of renewed efforts to increase food production, accelerate development projects, and address challenges affecting farming communities nationwide.

Regional coordinators of the Ministry presented detailed reports outlining the current state of agricultural production, ongoing initiatives, existing obstacles, and urgent priority needs requiring immediate intervention. The officials also submitted recommendations aimed at strengthening agricultural output and improving the quality of services delivered by the Ministry in various regions.

The discussions took place during a high-level meeting chaired by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Adan Geedi Qayaad, who met with regional coordinators from across the country to assess progress and chart a path forward for the sector.

The landmark meeting—the first of its kind between the Minister and the Ministry’s regional coordinators—was also attended by Deputy Minister Eng. Maaliki Abdi Hassan and Director General Eng. Abdirisak Ahmed Gaas.

Central to the discussions was the need to strengthen coordination and collaboration between the Ministry’s headquarters and regional offices to ensure the effective and timely implementation of agricultural development projects. Participants emphasized the importance of a unified approach to addressing regional challenges and maximizing opportunities for growth in the agricultural sector.

Minister Qayaad, alongside the Deputy Minister and Director General, listened to a range of perspectives and proposals from regional officials on ways to further enhance agricultural productivity and improve the impact of ongoing ministry-led programs.

The review initiative underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture, improving food security, and supporting farmers through targeted investments and stronger institutional cooperation. Officials expressed optimism that the outcomes of the consultations will contribute to a more productive and resilient agricultural sector across Somaliland.
