The Minister of Interior and Security of Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab has delivered a strong message calling for national unity and social harmony, stressing the importance of moving away from clan-based divisions and harmful rhetoric that could weaken community cohesion.
Speaking about the future of Somaliland, the minister emphasized that unity is essential for the country’s image and stability, saying:
“We are expected to be united so that the world sees us as a united people.”
He urged citizens to abandon clannism and other social behaviors that he described as damaging to peaceful coexistence, adding:
“We must show compassion to one another and leave behind the two things we are known for. One of them is clannism, which has harmed our society and will not guide us. What will guide us is brotherhood, mutual respect, compromise, listening to each other, and valuing one another.”
The minister also raised concerns over the growing misuse of media platforms, warning that some public discussions are contributing to social tension and misinformation. He criticized the trend of individuals using media spaces to spread insults and incite division, noting that such behavior was not traditionally part of the society’s values.
“It was not our tradition that anyone appears on the media and say whatever they like, opposite from our religious nature”.
He decried the fact that incitement and libelous malice is now too common even among the female gender.
His remarks come amid ongoing calls from government officials and community leaders to strengthen national cohesion and discourage rhetoric that could deepen social fractures.
