The Somaliland Embassy in Ethiopia came alive with national pride and vibrant unity as diplomats, community leaders, and the Somaliland diaspora gathered to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the Restoration of Somaliland’s Sovereignty and the National Day, under the inspiring theme: “Resilience and Recognition.”
The colorful celebration reflected the enduring spirit of the Somaliland people, bringing together a diverse crowd of diplomats, business leaders, traders, students, and members of the wider Somaliland community in Ethiopia. The atmosphere was filled with patriotic fervor, cultural pride, and a strong sense of collective aspiration as attendees honored three-and-a-half decades of hard-won self-determination, peace, and democratic progress.
The occasion was further elevated by the presence of high-level Somaliland government officials, including Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Brigadier General Abdi Ahmed Tiir, Deputy Commander of the Somaliland National Police. Their participation underscored the importance of the day and Somaliland’s continued commitment to strengthening ties with regional partners.
Speakers at the event highlighted Somaliland’s remarkable journey since reclaiming its sovereignty on 18 May 1991, praising the nation’s steadfast dedication to peace, democratic governance, regional cooperation, and sustainable development despite ongoing challenges.
This landmark commemoration not only celebrated past achievements but also served as a powerful reaffirmation of Somaliland’s forward-looking vision — one rooted in resilience, unity, and the unwavering pursuit of international recognition.
