VP calls upon stepping up of self-help as he visits Mohamed Mooge National Children’s Care Centre in observance of National Philanthropic Day

Somalilanders have been urged to make efforts in eking support to the needy and the deserving hence boost the welfare of others amongst the communities.

The appeal was made by the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland and Acting President, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi at the Mohamed Mooge National Children’s Care Centre to mark Somaliland’s National Philanthropic Day observed annually on May 10.

He was accompanied by several cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

Speaking during the visit, the VP stated that National Philanthropic Day was an occasion to reflect on the values of compassion and unity, solidarity and brethren-ship upon which Somaliland society is built, hence entails empathy, and support for vulnerable members of the community.

He noted that the government chose to commemorate this year’s May 10 National Philanthropic Day by visiting the Mohamed Mooge Children’s Care Centre in order to demonstrate that vulnerable children are not alone in facing life hardships, but rather have a nation and people standing beside them.

He assured the resident children that they were the future, hope, and pride of the nation of the Republic of Somaliland, emphasizing that the government bears a responsibility for their welfare, protection, and empowerment.

The commended the Ministry of Social Affairs, the local government led by the Mayor of the Capital, and the staff managing the centre for their dedication in providing care, rehabilitation, education, and a better future for the children.

Brief remarks were also delivered by the Hargeisa Mayor, Maroodi-Jeex Regional governor, the Minister of the Presidency, the Minister of Justice, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs that include the deputy minister and the director general.

The called upon Somaliland citizens at home and abroad, business leaders, and philanthropists to actively participate in such a day and continue strengthening the culture of mutual support and social assistance, particularly during times of economic hardship and community need.

The Head of State H.E. President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro had ordained, this time last year that the day would be observed annually in a move to entrench solidarity with the deserving, empathy, harmony, good gestures and philanthropy practice within the nation.
