“The populaces take personal responsibility in protecting the environment hence ought to do their best in planting trees across the nation”, urged the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro on Wednesday as he led the nation in observing the National Tree Planting Day, which was observed across all regions and districts of the country.
This is the first time that the policy is adhered to nation-wide following the stipulated programmes of the government.
Addressing the event, the President delivered a speech with the strong message, highlighting the importance of environmental protection and the critical role tree planting plays in stabilizing ecosystems.
He underscored the need for a unified national response to the challenges posed by global climate change.
The Head of State emphasized that tree planting is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment, but a national duty tied to safeguarding the lives of people and livestock, promoting a green economy, and securing the future of coming generations.
He noted that environmental degradation and recurring droughts have had a direct impact on livelihoods, requiring a coordinated national effort.
He further called on every Somaliland citizen to take personal responsibility for protecting the environment, stating that such actions would enhance the country’s reputation and demonstrate Somaliland’s commitment as a responsible nation on the global stage.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing national policies and programs aimed at strengthening environmental protection and climate resilience, describing tree planting as a cornerstone of such efforts.
