The Kremlin stated that Russian and American interests have converged following the Trump administration’s temporary easing of sanctions on purchases of Russian oil, a move linked to escalating tensions in the Iran-related conflict in the Middle East.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Reuters that Washington’s decision represents “a step toward stabilizing energy markets,” resulting in the alignment of US and Russian interests.
Global oil prices have risen sharply in recent days as fighting intensifies across the region.
On Tuesday, the United States granted countries permission to buy Russian oil and petroleum products previously restricted by sanctions.US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the authorization as a short-term measure “to promote stability in global energy markets” during the ongoing conflict. The waiver is set to remain in effect until April 11.
Russian economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev welcomed the development, stating on Telegram that “the United States is effectively acknowledging what is obvious: without Russian oil, the global energy market will not remain stable.
”Russia views the 30-day period as an initial step and continues to seek a longer-term lifting of sanctions.
